insoluble in water.
APPLICATIONS
Excellent antioxidant for vegetable oils, industrial oils, biscuits and other food products. Does not discolor in the presence of iron and water. Good carry through properties in fried foods. Vary effective in Protecting crude and refined vegetable oils during storage. TBHQ also find uses as a polymerization inhibitor for plastic monomers and in photographic application as a developing agent. It is said to be the best all round inhibitors for unsaturated polyester. TBHQ is a good antioxident for Citrus oils like Lemon Oil & essential Oils like Peppermint Oil.
For an antioxident to be effective in its function of preventing oxidative degradation. It is essential that it is present in adequate amount, PFA rules prescribe a maximum level of 200 gms. Per 1000 Kg. Of edible oil. The efficiency depends on the type of packing and quantity of head space in the container.
METHOD OF USEThe powder is dissolved in small quantity of oil or fat and the concentrated solution is stirred with reminder of the bulk oil. Stirring should be through to insure uniform dispersion throughout the oil but not so vigorous as to form air bubbles as this would accelerate autoxidation.
HANDLINGTBHQ has low oral toxicity: No special precaution are required for TBHQ apart from those adopted when handling any chemical in bulk. TBHQ has been reported to have a flash point of 171°C, it would not to be classified as flammable.
PACKING AND STORAGETo be stored in a clean cool place.
